Applying for Admission
The Oaks Academy admits students on a rolling admissions basis with a series of three (3) rounds of application deadline dates. Admission decisions are made at the end of each round and enrollment may extend beyond the application rounds until the class is full. The Admissions Review Committee reserves final decision making authority on all admissions. Applications received after each deadline will be considered pending available spaces.
Deadlines for applications are:
1st Round Placement: February 15, 2008
2nd Round Placement: March 14, 2008
3rd Round Placement: May 9, 2008
This checklist outlines the steps of The Oaks Academy application process:
- Attend a parent tour, classroom visit or Winter Open House.
- Submit a completed Application for Admission with a $25 non-refundable application fee.
- Submit all required materials to the school office to complete the application file including:
- Teacher Recommendation (Grades 1st - 8th)
- Student academic records
- Standardized achievement test scores (Grades 3rd - 8th)
- Parent (or legal guardian) interview with the Head of School and/or the Director of Admissions.
- Student completes an academic assessment. This evaluation assesses developmental readiness, academic aptitude, and behavioral matters. The admissions office contacts all parents/guardians to schedule testing time. The school reserves the right to place students at their appropriate level based on the assessment results.
- PK - 2nd grade students and parents may observe classrooms. Advance registration is requested. The Oaks Academy requires all students entering pre-kindergarten to be four years old and those entering kindergarten to be five years old by September 1st of the school year for which they apply.
- Students in grades 3rd - 7th "shadow" a full-day class at their current grade level, not at the grade for which they are applying. The Admissions Office schedules shadow dates and times.
- Middle school applicants should provide a one page written essay on why they would like to attend The Oaks Academy, due at the time of assessment.
After all steps have been accomplished, the complete application file is evaluated by the Admissions Review Committee. The Admissions Review Committee will use the school's mission statement as a foundation for admittance. If the applicant is admitted, and space is available, an Enrollment and Tuition Agreement Contract will be mailed to the prospective family. Families offered enrollment will have ten (10) business days to sign and return the contract with an enrollment fee to ensure admission. If a contract is not returned by the deadline, the classroom space will automatically be offered to another qualified applicant from the wait list. If no classroom space exists and a child has qualified for admission into The Oaks Academy, he or she will be placed in an active applicant wait list to be considered when an opening occurs.
