Thank You, Grandparents and Special Friends

On May 18, we welcomed more than 350 Grandparents and Special Friends to The Oaks Academy.

It was special to celebrate with them our students’ accomplishments this school year and the expansion of our mission as we open The Oaks Academy, Brookside in the near eastside of Indianapolis.

Some of our Grandparents and Special Friends have asked how to stay in touch during the year.  Guests are always welcome to join us for All-School Chapel on Wednesdays, 8:30-9:00am during the school year.

You can also receive weekly updates by subscribing to our blog.  Enter your email address and click “sign me up” on the left.  Or, subscribe via RSS feed to read blog posts in your favorite subscription manager.

We are grateful for our Grandparents and Special Friends and their participation in the life of our school community.

Sprinting Through the Finish Line

Congratulations, Track Team, on completing a great season!  From hurdles to shot put, you worked hard and did well.

TrackTrack at The Oaks Academy is a group effort.  The Track Team is made up of students in grades fourth through eighth.  Parents help run the meets and assist with coaching at after-school practices.

The Track Team is just one of the Oaks Plus activities offered to families.  Interested in learning more, or want to help coach?  Contact Chad Lynn by email (clynn@theoaksacademy.org) or phone (317.931.3697).

The Joseph Tomas (JT) Randolph Memorial Scholarship

This week, our school community has suffered a terrible loss.  The Randolph family was in a tragic auto accident.  JT Randolph, an Oaks Pre-Kindergarten student, was killed.  Other family members, including first grader Ramon, have suffered injuries.

Expressions of your prayers and encouragement are appreciated.  For more information on how to support the Randolph Family, join the Lotsa Helping Hands community page - click here.

A memorial service commemorating JT’s life will be held on June 16, 2012 at 1:00 pm at Northside New Era Church at 517 West 30th Street, Indianapolis, 46208.

Reginald Randolph and Angela White-Randolph have chosen to honor their son by establishing The Joseph Tomas (JT) Randolph Memorial Scholarship.  Charitable contributions to the fund will benefit students at The Oaks Academy.  Click here to make a donation online; please indicate that your gift is in memory of JT.  Or if you prefer, make your check payable to The Oaks Academy, and write JT Randolph in the memo line.

Grandparents and Special Friends

We are excited to welcome Grandparents and Special Friends to school on Friday, May 18.

The Lower School (Pre-K – 5th) hosts the morning activities.  After a brief program with Head of School Andrew Hart, guests will spend the morning alongside their grandchild or special friend in the Lower School classrooms.

That same evening, the Spring Fling will offer highlights from each grade’s curriculum.  All are welcome, and the Middle School (6th – 8th) grandparents and special friends are especially encouraged to attend.

We hope to see you on one of our most favorite days of the year!  If you are a Grandparent or Special Friend that plans to attend the morning or evening activities on May 18, please contact Jessica Journey at 317.931.3687 or jjourney@theoaksacademy.org.
