The hallways of The Oaks are always lined with student art, but in the spring, middle school students have a special showing. Each student chooses their “portfolio best” to be displayed in the Middle School Art Show. Art enthusiasts from the local community are invited to view and judge student art in the show, bestowing awards on the best pieces based on criteria, such as the work’s craftsmanship.
Being a Catalyst for Renewal is one of the four core values of The Oaks Academy. We believe it extends not only to our students in the classroom and their families at home, but also to the communities in which each school resides. Just as no two students are alike, the neighborhoods that host our schools each have unique histories.
Two guillotines sat in the corner of an empty classroom and propaganda posters lined the hallways. No need to be alarmed. The eighth grade Humanities classes reenacted the trial of King Louis, exactly 223 years to the date (January 14-15, 1793) the original verdict was announced. It is up to the sixth grade humanities classes to decide the King and Queen’s 2016 fate.
As I’m sure you’ve seen in the news, the Spring 2015 ISTEP+ results were released recently. The state The state adopted a new set of academic standards in 2014, thus altering the length and content of the ISTEP+ exam last spring. Given changes resulting from the new exam, comparisons of 2015 results to those of previous years are not recommended as valid (many school districts across the state saw decreases of 20% or greater). However, The Oaks Academy can still compare our results to other schools for 2015. Here are the results…
