The 1 Million Minutes Challenge has officially concluded, and our community has much to celebrate! Oaks students achieved an astounding 2,025,890 minutes of tech-free play in just four weeks. Their efforts inspired 785 family members, friends, and community donors to support our students, raising $81,690. When the students met their goal of 1 million minutes, their efforts unlocked a match from a generous group of donors – doubling all the donations raised for the playgrounds and new athletic facility.
It took all of us together and the impact of this challenge will last for years to come.
Playing It Forward
This campaign was more than a fundraiser — it was a reminder of the joy and connection found when we develop healthy habits around technology. One parent shared, “We already spent time tech-free at home, but being intentional about it inspired us to find new, creative ways to engage — and include our friends too.”
Teacher Joe Garner inspired his 5th-grade students to envision who could one day benefit from their efforts and generosity today, “We’re planting trees for future generations.”
Students embraced their tech-free time and fundraising efforts with creativity: running lemonade stands, baking imaginative cakes, tracking their progress with bar graphs, and designing dream playgrounds filled with treehouses, ziplines, and soccer fields. Their hard work laid the foundation for enhancing our spaces to encourage collaboration, play, and growth for years to come.
On Giving Tuesday, we asked a few students to share their ideas for the playgrounds and new gym.
Because of our students’ hard efforts and our community’s support, we reached our goal and every dollar given is matched. Your support has made a lasting impact on our school community.
