This fall, The Oaks Academy is excited to launch the 1 Million Minutes Challenge! This month-long initiative empowers students to go tech-free and spend time on activities that enrich their minds, bodies, and relationships. Throughout November, students will explore fun and enriching pursuits — like reading, sports, and art — while collectively working towards the ambitious goal of logging 1 million minutes away from screens.

In addition to fostering healthy habits, the 1 Million Minutes Challenge will have a broader impact. Friends and family can make donations in honor of students’ efforts, and if we achieve our goal of tech-free time, all donations will be matched! The funds raised will support essential campus improvements, including updated playgrounds and a new athletic and multipurpose facility, ensuring lasting benefits for our students and community.

Why Tech-Free?

This initiative reflects our commitment to nurturing each child’s holistic development. We recognize the influence of screen time on young minds and seek to promote activities that are joyful, meaningful, and engaging. By participating in this challenge, we aim to inspire our community to discover new, active ways to spend time together, igniting creativity and fostering healthy habits.

How Will We Track Our Progress?

We will update physical trackers located in each campus weekly, showcasing our collective progress toward the 1 million minutes goal and recording individual campus contributions. Be sure to check these trackers in the lobbies of the lower schools, next to the office at the Pre-K center, and in the Commons at the middle school!

We invite families to share their tech-free play stories, photos, and ideas with us at techfree@theoaksacademy.org. We would love to feature your contributions in our weekly updates and celebrate your progress on social media to inspire the entire Oaks community.
