At The Oaks Academy, we often reflect on how our community fosters not just academic growth but deep relationships that extend beyond the classroom. This was certainly true for Alex and Olivia (Pletcher) Kortepeter, two of our alumni who reconnected after their time at The Oaks and recently tied the knot on June 16, 2024.

Their Oaks Journey: Beginnings and Favorite Memories

Alex started at The Oaks in 1st grade and graduated in 2011 while Olivia started in Kindergarten and graduated in 2014. Though they were in the same building for six years, their real connection developed later in life – but more on that soon.

For both newlyweds, their time at The Oaks is recalled with fondness and enthusiasm as they named multiple teachers who had lasting impact on their lives. Olivia credits The Oaks with coaxing her out of her shell, especially through the annual Patriotic Speech Festival. What started as a daunting public speaking challenge became a passion for the performing arts. From there, Olivia dove into every theater production, both Shakespearean and otherwise, finding her confidence on stage and in public.

When asked about the lasting impact of The Oaks’ educational philosophy, Alex emphasized how the school’s approach to integrating faith into every subject shaped his worldview. “God was present in everything we learned,” he reflects. This holistic perspective on faith continues to influence him as he strives to see God in all his ambitions and pursuits.

A Reconnection and a New Beginning

Though they knew of each other during their time at The Oaks, it wasn’t until a few years ago, during Thanksgiving week, that Alex and Olivia truly reconnected. They hit it off so well that they went on three dates in one week – and the rest, as they say, is history. Their wedding on June 16th marked the beginning of a new chapter, rooted in a shared faith and a deep love that grew over time.

Life After The Oaks

Today, Alex is an industrial engineering graduate from Purdue University, working in business strategy at an investment firm. Olivia, who double-majored in theater and marketing at Xavier University, now works in marketing for The Heritage Group. The couple has chosen to settle in Indianapolis, grateful to be close to family and eager to build a strong community. “The Oaks showed us what it means to be known and loved,” they share. With that foundation, Alex and Olivia are excited to invest in relationships that reflect those same values – knowing and loving others well.
