Oaks Plus offers our students a variety of extracurricular activities such as before and after care, clubs, and sports. Sports, in particular, provide students with a different atmosphere to learn and grow where they face new and different challenges. Offering a total of seven competitive sports throughout the school year, our winter season offers Boys and Girls Basketball.
The Oaks is one of 13 schools in the Indianapolis Independent School League (IISL), in which our Junior Varsity and Varsity Teams play. In addition to these teams, we follow a ‘no-cut’ philosophy that allows for every student that registers for a sport to be placed on a team in an in-house league. Tryouts are held at the beginning of the season so that coaches can assess the skills and abilities of players and assign them to an appropriately challenging team.
Boys Basketball
The boys basketball program featured a robust structure with a total of 92 players distributed across nine teams. Teams are broken down by grade level and skill, with 5th and 6th grade playing together and 7th and 8th grade playing together on Conference and In House teams. This comprehensive setup ensured that players were grouped according to age and skill level, fostering competitive yet supportive environments.
In-House Teams
The 5th and 6th grade in house teams competed in the 14U Tab Rec league on Saturday mornings while 7th and 8th grade teams played in an Oaks managed league against other intramural teams on Friday nights. There were seven In House teams in total, with three teams in the Tab Rec league and four teams in the Oaks-managed league.
In their respective tournaments, every team showcased their competitive spirit and determination but ultimately no Oaks team won a championship. In the 5th and 6th grade division, teams battled through an eight-team tournament at the end of the season. Despite strong efforts, all Oaks teams were eliminated in the first round by TAB Rec and PAL teams.
The 7th and 8th grade division competed in a five-team tournament, with the first round being Oaks v. Oaks team matchups. Oaks Zinerman bested Oaks Storms, while Oaks Schroeder edged out Oaks Ems in competitive and fun-filled games. Oaks Zinerman then faced a strong PAL team but did not advance. PAL ultimately topped Oaks Schroeder to claim the championship.
Conference Teams
The JV team entered the tournament as the #2 seed in a competitive 12-team field. After a confident second-round victory over #7 Sycamore, they advanced to face #6 Orchard, who had pulled off an earlier upset against #3 Traders Point. The Oaks stayed composed and secured a semi-final win, earning their spot in the championship game. There, they battled top-seeded Bethesda but ultimately came up short in a hard-fought matchup.
The Varsity team wrapped up their regular season as the #1 seed among 11 teams — a testament to their consistent play all winter. In the quarterfinals, they defended their home court with a win over #8 Greenwood Christian, then carried that momentum into the semi-finals with a solid victory over #4 Orchard. The championship game saw them face a talented #3 Park Tudor squad. Despite their effort and resilience, the boys came up just short, closing out a strong season filled with growth and grit.
