Founded in 1998, The Oaks Academy is a Christ-centered school that exists to provide a rich, classical education to children of diverse racial and socioeconomic backgrounds, preparing them to succeed in a rigorous secondary educational program and to demonstrate spiritual, social and emotional maturity. Currently on three campuses, serving over 800 students, The Oaks Academy will continue to grow to serve more children.

Job Summary

The Custodial Technician provides custodial services at assigned locations, ensuring an attractive, sanitary, and safe environment for students, staff and visitors. She/he assists in preparing facilities for classroom activities and campus events.

Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Cleans assigned facilities and grounds including classrooms, offices, gym, restrooms, cafeterias, multipurpose rooms; sweeps, scrubs, mops, washes, and polishes floors; disinfects and washes windows, counters, and walls; vacuums rugs and carpets; dusts and polishes furniture and woodwork; cleans drinking fountains;
  • Replenishes classroom and restroom supplies (paper towels, soap, etc.) ensuring adequate quantities for daily use; restocks supply and storage areas;
  • Empties and cleans waste receptacles; picks-up trash containers and empties into large bins for proper disposal;
  • Grooms landscaping around school site buildings, parking and play areas; removes trash, ensures drainage avenues are clear, and rakes and grooms planted areas;
  • Prepares site for daily operations; opens gates, and sweeps walkway; ensures facilities are operational and hazard free;
  • Provides safe access to building ensuring snow and ice are removed; 
  • Secures facilities and grounds to include doors, windows, gates, alarms, and lights; checks areas for vandalism; observes pedestrian and visitor activity at the assigned site and reports unusual activity or behavior to the appropriate authority;
  • Moves furniture and equipment; sets-up meeting rooms, classrooms, and other school facilities for special meetings and events;  
  • Monitors activities in and around work areas (e.g. halls, multipurpose rooms, cafeterias, restrooms, grounds, etc.) to prevent injuries and ensure site safety;
  • Picks up students’ personal effects and transfers to lost-and-found;
  • Prepares written materials such as repair status reports and activity logs;
  • Participates in meetings, workshops, trainings, and seminars as directed;
  • Collaborates with Operations team to handle teacher and staff requests; and
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Requires prolonged walking and standing;
  • Occasionally requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials of up to 50 pounds;

  • Must be able to work in noisy and crowded environments;
  • Must be able to work in hot or cold environments;
  • Requires the ability to talk, see, feel, and hear;
  • Frequently requires the ability to use hands and fingers, to handle or feel objects, tools, or controls.
