SGO Tax Credit Program

Indiana offers a tax savings SGO (scholarship granting organization) program that provides scholarships for low-income students. When you make an SGO gift to The Oaks, you will be eligible for a tax credit equal to 50% of the donation amount against your state tax liability. Some SGO donations may also qualify for a federal tax deduction.

This tax savings program is possibly the best ‘gift multiplier’ available, allowing you to give more than you thought possible! Your savings depends on a multitude of factors. Please consult a tax professional for implications on your giving and tax situation.

Become an Oaks Partner

A gift of $5,000 provides The Oaks experience for one student for one school year. With a gift at that level made through the SGO program, you can support an Oaks education for a student for an academic year for around $1,700! We think you’ll agree that’s an incredible philanthropic impact for the dollar.

Partners receive regular updates about what students are learning, and invitations to special events to connect with school leadership and see firsthand what is happening in Oaks classrooms.

Donor Advised Funds

Donor Advised Funds (DAFs) are growing in popularity and in ease – and you can make gifts directly to The Oaks Academy (EIN #35-2050595) and mail to any of our campuses. The Oaks Academy is a registered 501(c)(3) organization and able to accept donations from all Donor Advised Fund organizations including, but not limited to:

(Note: Unfortunately DAF gifts do not qualify for the SGO Tax Credit program, so if you’d like the state tax credit savings mentioned above, SGO gifts must be made in cash, stock or real property.

Gifts of Stock or Securities

Turn your stock into scholarships for the greatest multiplying effect.

Appreciated stock gives you the most tax savings – especially when combined with the SGO Tax Credit Program. You receive both the charitable deduction (based on the value on the gift date) and tax savings from capital gains. By donating, there’s no tax for you or The Oaks, plus a student in need receives The Oaks experience.

To give stock through the state tax credit program, start the process online here.  To gift stock directly to The Oaks without the benefit of the state tax program, begin here.

For year-end stock gifts please initiate the process by mid-December to ensure they qualify for year-end giving and your tax deduction in that particular calendar year.

Wiring a Gift Directly

One of the easiest ways to give, email us to receive the simple instructions as we don’t put our bank account information online! Important – please let us know your wired gift is coming! Unfortunately your name often doesn’t appear on the transfer and, without notice, we may not receive the gift.

IRA Charitable Rollover

If you’re 70 1/2 and older, the government requires you take a distribution from your IRA. However, you can gift all or part of that distribution to The Oaks, and you don’t pay taxes on it as income. Simply have them cut a check payable out of the IRA to The Oaks Academy and mailed to any of our campuses.

Endowment Gift

These funds are invested and the returns support The Oaks in perpetuity. For details on making an endowment gift to ensure the long-term impact of The Oaks, contact Nathan Hand, Chief Advancement Officer, by email or 317-840-0730.

Legacy Gift

Have you named The Oaks Academy in your will or estate?  The easiest way is to include this important information in your will or estate documents.

I give, devise, and bequeath [the sum of _____ USD (or other currency) OR _____ percent of the rest and residue of my estate] to The Oaks Academy, Inc. (tax identification number 35-2050595), a charitable corporation organized under the laws of the State of Indiana, United States, currently located at 2301 North Park Avenue, Indianapolis, IN 46205, to be used for its general charitable purposes at its discretion.

If you have done so, simply let us know and you’ll join our Legacy Society. There are often additional details and strategies to discuss with this type of gift to ensure we understand your full intentions. When ready, contact Nathan Hand, Chief Advancement Officer to begin the conversation at 317-840-0730 or nhand@theoaksacademy.org.
