Only at The Oaks
We’re cultivating a love for learning in our students while preparing them academically, socially, and spiritually for high school. Our curriculum will foster critical thinking, creativity, and lifelong habits in your child through a proven, Christ-centered approach.
Fine Arts Major
The Fine Arts Major program allows students to choose an artistic discipline and explore it in depth, enhancing their skills and abilities.
After completing one semester of band and one semester of orchestra and participating in a weekly choral music class, 6th-grade students select their Fine Arts Major by the end of the school year. Your child will choose between art, band, choir, or orchestra.
During 7th grade and 8th grade, major classes meet four days a week, complemented by a general art or world music class on the fifth day.
Multiple Math Options & Logic
Guided by teacher insights and academic progress, your child will be thoughtfully placed in one of three math pathways to ensure they are appropriately challenged and fully supported. Math pathways can include high school-level math courses, including Algebra I and Geometry, allowing students to potentially earn high school credit.
In 7th and 8th grade, students also study Logic, the study of right reason. As your child is encouraged to seek truth and speak about ideas in every class, our Logic class will help them think clearly, wisely, and rationally.
- Seventh Grade – study the habits of logic and the nature of truth
- Eighth Grade – learn to judge the soundness of arguments and illogical thinking
Humanities
Our humanities program combines history, literature, art and music appreciation, geography, and biblical narratives in a chronological timeline.
- Sixth Grade – Learn about African civilizations and 19th-century American history
- Seventh Grade – Study 20th-century American and world history
- Eighth Grade – Explore a comprehensive look at world history, from Mesopotamia to the computer age
Bible, Language Arts, & Languages
Students read the Bible to uncover the truth of God’s word together.
- Sixth Grade – Study the New Testament letters and learn about the importance of faith and trusting God
- Seventh Grade – Study Psalms and Proverbs and explore wisdom and worship
- Eighth Grade - Study John and Revelation and discover how Christ reveals his divinity and towards us toward a glorious future
Children learn great writing by reading the great writers. Our students read excellent literature, thoughtfully selected to challenge their minds. Your child will develop a clear writing style with complex sentence structure and a broader vocabulary. They also continue recitations and public speaking opportunities and begin engaging in discussions and debates.
In sixth grade, students continue to study Latin. At the end of sixth grade, your child will choose to continue with Latin or begin learning Spanish. By the end of eighth grade, students are fluent enough to earn high school credit if offered.
Technology
Students participate in a STEM / Technology class, covering basic computer skills (i.e. using computer applications; research skills and citation) and digital citizenship (online safety), as well as computer programming. They also use computers to manage classroom work in preparation for high school.
