LEARNING Beyond the classroom
At The Oaks, we offer a rich experience beyond our proven curriculum. Our focus on whole child development means your child’s emotional, social, and spiritual maturity is as important as their academic success. Your child will learn through their relationships with other students and their many experiences outside the classroom.
Lauds and Chapel
Lauds is a set time for students to gather for a song, scripture reading, and prayer each morning. Starting every morning in this way sets the Christ-centered atmosphere of The Oaks, welcoming your child to center their day on Christ. Parents are welcomed to stay for this special time. Once a month, we host “Fill Up Lauds Fridays” with provided coffee to encourage parents to develop relationships with each other.
On Wednesday, students participate in chapel, an extended time to sing, read scripture, and pray together. These 30 minutes are a highlight for our school community, and parents often attend to worship alongside their children.
House System
Our house system expands your child’s relationships across grade levels. In their house, they will build community and school spirit through events like the academic decathlon, leadership roles, and service projects.
Field Trips
Field trips enhance learning for our middle school students. At each grade level, your child will have a capstone experience, bringing their knowledge to life.
- Sixth Grade: National Underground Railroad Freedom Center, Cincinnati
- Seventh Grade: Art museum and architecture tour, Chicago
- Eighth Grade: Washington, D.C. for a lengthy historical experience
Middle School students enjoy regular forest days at local state and city parks and other curriculum-based field trips.
