What if learning geography meant tasting it and sharing it with loved ones? At the Oaks Academy education goes beyond textbooks. Our students step into their studies through hands-on, meaningful experiences that spark curiosity and create lasting memories.
Bringing Geography to Life
As part of their exploration of the seven continents, our first-grade students recently completed their "tour" of Europe in a very special way: a formal English Tea. To celebrate the conclusion of their European studies, each student invited a parent or special guest to join them for a traditional British experience at Sassafras Tea Room in Greenwood, Indiana. Together, they sipped tea, enjoyed shortbread and other treats, and participated in a beloved Lower School tradition that brings learning to life.
In the weeks leading up to the tea, students explored Europe's climate, animals, geography, and culture. During the celebration, they proudly shared what they had learned with their guests - comparing American and British English, discussing cultural differences, and reflecting on what makes Europe unique. This hands-on experience allowed students to connect classroom learning with real-world traditions in a joyful and memorable way.
Why these Experiences Matter
Experiences like the English Tea embody The Oaks' approach to learning: active, immersive, and deeply engaging. By stepping fully into their studies, students develop both understanding and delight - cultivating knowledge and a love of learning that lasts far beyond the classroom.
This summer, The Oaks Academy was full of familiar faces. Fourteen alumni returned to our campuses—not as students, but as leaders, mentors, and teammates
Each year, The Oaks Academy gathers all faculty and staff for professional development that strengthens both practice and community. This August, our team came together at Newfields to explore the habit of attention through nature and picture study.
At The Oaks Academy, education goes beyond academics. Our students grow in curiosity, confidence, and character—learning the habits and values that prepare them to thrive for life.
One year after the 1 Million Minutes Challenge, the results are easy to see. Thanks to our community’s generosity, students are enjoying new playgrounds, and construction is underway on The Oaks Fieldhouse and Multipurpose Space.
The Oaks Academy prepares students for life through strong academics, character formation, and a Christ-centered community. Discover how one Oaks graduate was impacted by our mission in high school and beyond.
