Alumni of The Oaks: Back in the Classroom

This school year, The Oaks Academy is excited to welcome back alumni who have returned to serve our community in different, meaningful ways. Each of them brings a deep love for students, a commitment to Christ‑centered education, and a unique perspective shaped by their own years as Oaks learners.

"all the right doors were closing and opening for me to come back."

Grace Walton, Class of 2015

Grace has returned to The Oaks Academy this year, serving as a Building Substitute at the Brookside Campus.

When asked why she chose to come back, Grace shared that “it felt like the direction God was leading me to. It was opposite of what I went to school for, but it felt like all the right doors were closing and opening for me to return.

Her favorite part of the role so far has been "everything"! She loves meeting students across grade levels and appreciates the opportunity to know so many of them through substituting in classrooms throughout the campus. Grace also deeply values the care among the teachers she works alongside.

One of Grace's favorite memories from her time as an Oaks student was the fourth‑grade Monastery trip, especially exploring the nearby cave.

Josie Aalsma, Class of 2017

Josie has also returned to The Oaks this year, serving in several roles: leading Chapel and Lauds for Middle School and Early Education, working as a Building Substitute, and supporting the front office.

She shared that she chose to return because she “loves working with kids and loves creating music. I also love The Oaks and it has been a joy to be back! ” Her favorite part of her work so far has been getting to know the students in the classes she subs in. Although she enjoys leading Chapel and Lauds at both campuses, she finds leading Lauds in the Early Education Center especially meaningful with witnessing the excitement of young learners as they worship and listen to music.

As a student, Josie’s favorite memories include the Middle School camping trips and her eighth‑grade trip to Washington, D.C.

We are also excited to welcome Meredith Bergeon back to The Oaks this year! She has returned as the 3rd–5th Grade Latin Teacher for both Brookside and Fall Creek.

When asked why she chose to return, Meredith shared that she “wanted to work at a school that places Christ‑centered education as the top priority.
