Day in the Life in Kindergarten at
The Oaks Academy

FOLLOW ALONG FOR A DAY IN THE LIFE OF A KINDERGARTEN STUDENT

What does a day in Kindergarten at The Oaks Academy look like? It’s filled with joyful learning, meaningful routines, and moments of play and rest that help each child grow. From the very beginning, students build a strong foundation academically, socially, and spiritually. Let’s take a closer look and step inside a day in the life of Kindergarten at The Oaks Academy.

Morning

KindergarteOriginalImage,,,Originaln students are welcomed by name upon arrival, then line the hallways for Lauds, when the school sings, listens to Scripture, and prays together. Returning to the classroom, students complete word practice, stren OptimizedImage,,,Optimizedgthening their early reading skills through intentional word activities. They remain on the rug to pray and read a Bible passage together, then practice narration by sharing what they heard in their own words.

After a quick snack, students move into rotations. These small-group learning experiences are designed to provide students with individualized support while building independence and confidence. A typical rotation might include reading with a teacher, a hands-on math activity, or an independent drawing.

Next comes a favorite part of the day: recess. Kindergarten has two recesses each day, outside when weather permits, and in the classroom when needed. Back inside, students transition into an artist study, observing and discussing works of art together. Next is calendar time when the student leader for the day helps identify the date, place it in the month, and count the days of the school year, building number sense along the way.

Afternoon

After a full morning, students gather for lunch, either brought from home or provided by the school. Following lunch, the class enjoys storytime, engagOriginalImage,,,Originaling with nursery rhymes, fairy tales, and other rich literature, before the day slows as students settle in for rest time.

Once they wake up, students attend one of our special classes (art, music, physical education, or library). As the school day comes to a close, students take time to reflect on what they learned, experienced, and enjoyed that day.

From the first greeting in the morning to the final moments before dismissal, each part of the day is thoughtfully designed to help students grow academically and personally. At The Oaks, Kindergarten is more than just the start of school; it’s the beginning of a lifelong love of learning.
