Moments That Matter:
How Field Trips Make Learning Come to Life

This fall, Oaks first-grade students will learn about farm life and read Farmer Boy by Laura Ingalls Wilder. They’ll discover where our food comes from, the hard work required, and how farming was (and is) an important part of our history and economy.
Then they'll step onto a working farm.
Here they can gaze in amazement at animals they might have only seen in books. They can pet donkeys, hold chickens, and smell a pigsty. They can experience farm life in a way ink and paper can’t ever provide.
For many students, it will be their first time on a farm.
And that moment matters.
Why Field Trips Matter at The Oaks
At The Oaks, learning extends far beyond the classroom.
From farm visits and museum trips to historical sites and nature studies, students experience lessons firsthand through field trips tied closely with their curriculum and designed to spark:
- Wonder
- Curiosity
- Discovery
- Confidence
At The Oaks, field trips are education.
- History becomes tangible when third-grade students travel on a canal boat after studying modes of early transportation.
- Science becomes memorable when second-grade classes collect leaves and sketch leaf veins and lobes.
- Art comes alive when our youngest learners imitate Love by Robert Indiana and then encounter the giant sculpture at Newfields.
